I checked last week. . . my room hasn't been cleaned yet. Giant relief! I can't do anything until it's clean. . . yay! That was last week. . . this week, I'm panicking.
I do, thanks to my excellent team, have the first 2 weeks of lessons planned out. I thing down. . . 200 to go. AUGH!!!!!!
Ok, deep breath.
I am super excited to read Pete the Cat's new book Rocking in My School Shoes the first day of school. For the past 10 years I've read the Kissing Hand and then we do a tour of the school looking for Chester. This year we are doing a tour of the school while looking for Pete!
If you haven't seen the new book here's a sneak peek <3
The tour is always crazy insane. . . trying to keep track of 24 kids who don't know hallway rules or understand my expectation yet and whose names and faces I don't have memorized yet. . . oh boy. BUT it's fun and the kids enjoy the hunt. I'm always super surprised how many of them TRULY believe we'll find Chester. : )
Here's a Pete the Cat freebie for you. (Includes tour of school cards, first day certificate and coloring page) I found out my kiddos get art this year so I updated the tour. If you've downloaded this from my TPT site you might want to download it again (I can't post it on TPT anymore. . . long story. . .copyright laws blah, blah, blah.)
Click Pete to get your copy:
Ok, off to get something school related done. . . maybe I'll start my "to do" list. That always makes me feel better plus I LOVE checking things off the list!
Head over to Rubberboots and Elf Shoes linky for more great Pete the Cat ideas!

HA! You cracked me up about how your room's not clean yet, so it's ok! I think the same way. I actually have several things I need to get from my room to tackle a few projects, but we have to turn in our keys at the end of the year, and the office is closed till August, so I can't get in! AGH. Oh well.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I love your blog and am passing on some bloggy awards to you (which I'm sure you've already received, but hey, it's the thought--lol)! Stop by my blog to check it out. :D

I love Pete the Cat and the tour idea! We did a school tour on the first day with the gingerbread man last year (an idea from veteran teachers), but I'm super excited about Pete the Cat! Thank you for the freebie!
ReplyDeleteLove the idea of the Pete the Cat tour--excited about using it. Also, I kind of feel like I am in a rut with my beginning of the year plans. You said you have the first two weeks planned. Do you have these for sale anywhere? Just looking for new ideas... Thanks
ReplyDeleteI am s second grade teacher and plan to use your Pete The Cat ideas. I appreciate you for sharing. Keep up the great work. Diedra

ReplyDeleteThank you! Thank you! Thank you!
I love Pete the Cat!
I am so bummed! This sounds so cute, exactly what I was looking for but I can't open the link. Any thoughts on why?
ReplyDeleteDo you have the newest version of adobe reader downloaded?
DeleteI did update my adobe reader but it still takes me to a "webpage can not be found" site. I actually opened it through my iphone, but I can't print it from there. I also tried emailing it to myself from my phone, but it still doesn't work. It tells me that I'm not authorized to open google docs. I sent a request but I am not sure what that does. This is all new to me. I just started following your blog and love it! I just hope I can figure this out. I just ordered both Pete the Cat books and the stuffed animal. I was looking for something new. Thanks so much!
DeleteSo after a lot of playing around on my computer, like I said this was all new to me, I finally figured it out! Yay!!
DeleteSo glad you got it to work!!
DeleteIt's All Good. Thanks so much for sharing this wonderful freebie. Have a great school year. You have helped my first day easier.
DeleteThanks so much for this freebie. I am freaking too. WE are being moved into "learning cottages" AKA trailers, AKA the Kinder Condos and can't get in until August 6th hopefully. Felt like I was in a rut wtih Kissing Hand and discovered Pete this past year. Just ordered School Shoes from Amazon so this will work out nicely. Thanks again and cute blog.
ReplyDeleteHi Michelle, thank you so much for this resource. I was so excited when I found it, I just picked up my copy of School Shoes and printed the packet off today. I can't wait to use it in class.
ReplyDeleteThis is perfect!!! I was just trying to figure out how I was going to use Pete this year and I think this is a great way to introduce him!!! Thanks for sharing. :)

This is too cute... can't wait to use it with my K/1 combo kids! It will be perfect. Thanks for sharing. I am now following your blog. Would you share the name of the font you used so I can make my "first" look like "Kindergarten" on the pages. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteThanks for following me! : ) The font is LD Dabble. Hope your kiddos enjoy the activity!
DeleteOh thank you so much for the free Pete the Cat idea! I plan on using Pete the first day as well. I am having one of my talented kids or my hubs make me a pete the cat drawing for a bulletin board in my classroom. I will entitle the board: Pete the Cat says: "It's all good in kindergarten" I am so excited for this!

I don't know whether to thank you or not...I had my whole first day planned out and now I find THIS! I'm changing plans and Pete has been invited!

So glad I'm not the only one with panic set in right now! We're not even allowed to work in our rooms until the week before we HAVE to be back. I still have another week and a half until then. Thanks to Pinterest and blogs like this, at least my ideas and some plans are ready in my head! LOL!
ReplyDeleteThank you soooooooo much for this cute freebie! My Kindergaten team is going to use this school tour, but we are going to wait until a little later in the first week. Is there any way that you can make a certificate that says "first week" instead of "first day". If that is possible, please email me at perikson@coastal-link.net. Thanks so much for your cute ideas!!!! I hope you have a great year!
ReplyDeletePaulette
Thank you so much for posting, even though it's taken of TpT. That is such a joke! I never would have even heard of this book if not for TpT. Authors are going to have to realize that things like this promote the sales and use of their books. Thanks again!
