Duct Tape Love

This USED to be an ugly brown clipboard.

5 minutes + adorable duct tape=
adorable polka dotted clipboard

I am in Duct Tape LOVE!  : )

The question that remains. . . will it survive 26 kindergartners next year without peeling?
I'll be honest with you. . . if it peels this will be a short love affair.

Sorry Duct, just being honest.

  1. LOVE :)

My daughter has been working on clip boards for me with scrapbook paper and contact paper...looks like we might need to go look at the duct tape, too!

    1. If you try both let me know which way you liked better! I always wanted to try the scrapbook paper/modge podge but it sounded so messy- never thought of trying contact paper. Do you have pics?

  2. I heart the polka dots!! Have you seen any red polka dotted duct tape by any chance? That's going to be part of my theme next year. :)

    1. I've seen pink polka dot but not red. I even did a google search for it and came up empty. That would be super cute though colors!

Can you cover it with modge podge to stop it from peeling?

  4. Michelle,

    So cute!!!!
I want to try some of these this summer. Did you wrap the duck tape all the way around to the back side? Where did you place the seam? Just curious.

    Thanks,
    Ann

    1. Thanks Ann! I wrapped it around to the back and tried to stagger the seam at the back so it wasn't just one long seam line. Don't know if that will help or not but seemed like the thing to do.

  7. I really want to do this but here is my concern and maybe you can answer this for me.....
When you put a piece of paper on the clipboard and write on it can the kids write smoothly or is it bumpy due to the tape?

    1. Kristy- I had the same concerns. There are, of course, a few horizontal lines on the front but other than that it is smooth. Even the horizontal lines didn't bother me and I push pretty hard when I write. I actually like it more than I thought I would. I won't be letting my class use it for handwriting but for Read the Room activities and math games it will be perfect.

    2. Awesome....we only have 2 1/2 days of school left so I was making a list of things I want to take home to work on this summer. I guess I should add the clipboards to that list. :)

  8. That is really cute! I just bought some clip boards for summer camp and was trying to think of a way to decorate them. I hadn't thought of using the pretty duct tape, I think I'm going to have to do it!

  10. I love duct tape too! I take the copy paper boxes from my teacher's lounge and wrap them in duct tape! I then use them as storage on top of my file cabinets and they look pretty! I have never seen the polka dot kind! I love it! I have been using the zebra stripe for my boxes.

  11. Polka-dot duct tape, who knew? Now that's a great invention! I can think of many, many uses for that. Thanks for sharing your clipboard idea!

  12. You can buy it in sheets too so it will be seemless. :) This is also on my list to do this summer.

  13. New follower! I just got the idea to duct tape one of my ugly brown clipboards this evening and then saw this post on FB. When I saw someone's comment above about bumpy writing, I took a single piece of notebook paper and wrote on it too. Not too bad...I love the polka dots that you used. I just might have to find that pattern in the full sheets and then get a roll for the edges.
Looking forward to reading your blog and following your adventures!

    1. Thanks for following! Have you tried the full sheets yet? Wondering how easy they would be to use. I got the polka dot pattern from Target. Hoping to find it in pink or purple but haven't seen it yet.

  14. I just bought four sheets of duct tape to match the rolls. I'm going to use them in my centers - perhaps on a clipboard!!! I found mini-clipboards at the Target $1 spot.

    1. I've seen them at Wal-Mart in the arts/crafts isle but I didn't check on pricing.

    2. I have seen them at Wal-Mart for a little over a dollar a piece. About 1.20 or something around that dollar amount.
